In 2018, the Waimairi-iri cluster of schools will host four Mandarin Language Assistants (MLA's) from China. These are Chinese university students with very good English skills, who will deliver Chinese language classes at local schools. The students are generally around 22-23 years old.

The MLA's need accommodation for the whole 2018 school year. The maximum that the MLA's are able to pay for their homestay is $250 per week. One family may host a maximum of two MLA's.

The host family should be genuinely interested in hosting an MLA from China, who will regard the MLA's presence positively, communicate with the MLA and treat the MLA as a member of the family.

The host family should provide 3 meals (breakfast, packed lunch and dinner) and a bedroom with a bed, desk, chair and adequate lighting and heating.

If you think that you may be interested in hosting an MLA for the 2018 school year, please contact Kevin Grounds grk@burnside.school.nz for more information.
