Burnside High School students competed in 12
events at the South Island Rowing
Championships held at Lake
Ruataniwha, March 19 and 20.
There is a parent meeting at 7:30pm in the staffroom next Wednesday for all parents of rowers (rowers themselves do not need to attend). This is to do some planning for our first regatta in a few weeks' time and discuss any other planning matters for the season.
Please also at this time, ensure that your rower has handed in their registration forms.... either to myself or Mrs Hunt.
See you all there!

Thanks to those that attended the learn to row days throughout the holidays - by now I am sure you all have a pretty good idea of what rowing is about!
The plan now is as follows...
- Training for the whole squad on the water at Kerr's Reach on Mondays and Thursdays (at this stage) after school.
- Seniors (U17 and U18s) will also row on Tuesdays at the Reach
- Morning training before school (6:30am - be 5mins early!) will start at school next week with seniors (U17 and U18) on Tuesday 22nd Oct and juniors (U15, U16 and novices/new rowers) will be on ...
Please see attached notice for next weeks camp and regatta.
I realise some of u still might be away on holiday but I just want to double check when some of you are arriving and give you all one last chance to advise me of any travel plans that mean you either wont be at camp/the canterbury champs - or both.
So far I have:
- Harriet away on holiday
- Saskia arriving 16/17th
- Brooke arriving 14th
Everyone except Harriet will be attending the regatta.
I am putting in our entries tonight so let me know asap if uv decided to have an extended holiday!! More info about departure times and logistic to come....
Please see attached notice and gear list for next weeks regatta and camp.
As discussed on Sunday at the end of the regatta, training this week will be the same as previous for Novices with the inclusion of an erg after your row.
Intermediates and Seniors need to come down every day (Tues, Weds, Thurs) and will also do an erg on one of those days after their row.
It is really important that you all attend training! See you tomorrow.
Mr Lowe will be taking orders for rowing singlets and caps at training tomorrow. Each novice rower is expected to purchase one training singlet ($25) and one cap ($15). Some may want to purchase two training singlets so there is a spare when one is in the wash.
Rowers from last year are asked to bring their training singlets to training tomorrow so they can be used to help the novies decide on the correct size.
Rowers will be issued rowing suits to borrow for the season to be worn for racing only. We do not have enough in stock at present but we have ordered more.
