    EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

    • Topic 1

      • Each block and classroom has pinned to the wall instructions in case of earthquakes, fire, lockdown or other emergencies.  Maps show evacuation pathways.
         
      • Form teachers train their form classes in emergency procedures.  In the case of earthquakes it is ‘drop’ (under a desk) and ‘cover’ (head with hands and close eyes).
         
      • Evacuations are signalled by continuous ringing bells and repeated automated messages over the classroom speaker system.  Students leave their bags behind but take their cellphones.
         
      • Muster stations are on the main upper field.  Students gather by division and form class.  Students and staff have their presence recorded.
         
      • A public address system allows the chief controller to issue information to all muster stations.
         
      • If parents and caregivers come to collect their daughter or son, they will be directed to the appropriate division and be required to sign out with the form teacher of their student.
         
      • Practice evacuations three times a year ensure students are familiar with procedures and safety requirements such as staying well clear of the walls of buildings.  Wardens practise clearing the blocks and checking the alarms and report clearances to the buildings coordinator who reports to the chief controller.
         
      • Emergency supplies are stored in a building separate from the main blocks.  The supplies include first aid packs, a generator, radio telephones, hi-viz vests, food, blankets, a poncho for each student and staff member and mobile public address system and an emergency procedure manual.
         
      • Regarding earthquakes, the ministry has engineers check all school buildings after any significant event and our property staff, as part of our health and safety requirements, check the buildings regularly.

        Students line up in Divisions on the upper grounds, on the grass beyond the construction road.  West at the North end of I block, then Senior, then North, then South ending near the cricket nets.

        If weather is too severe, Divisional Principals may choose to redirect students to the following covered areas PROVIDED THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF FIRE:

        • NORTH   -     Hunter Gym
        • WEST     -     Hall
        • SOUTH    -    Cross Gym
        • SENIOR   -    I block - Assemble alphabetically by form class

        Form Classes:  13Bw to 13Mv  -   downstairs in corridor areas
