              • Canoe polo - South Island Championships 7th & 8th August

Success at the SISS canoe polo Championships in Oamaru for Matt Patient (Y12) and Georgia Van de Loo (Y11).

Burnside High School sent two teams (11 students) to Oamaru to represent the school in canoe polo competing, against eighteen other teams from around the South Island. Over the weekend all players showed development and two players - Matt Patient and Georgia Van de Loo - were named for the tournament team, which recognises the most impressive players at the tournament.

A huge thank you to Miss Symons (coach) who trained our teams, Miss Robison for her work in organising the teams, and Mr Smythe and Mr Johnston for taking players to Oamaru.

                  • South Island Champs Invercargill 1-4th August 2014

On Friday 1st August the U19 and U15 Canoe Polo teams travelled to Invercargill to compete in the South Island Secondary Schools Champs, held at Splash Palace. Both teams improved dramatically over the Tournament and produced great results. The U15 team had a tough 3rd/4th playoff but lost their final game during extra time, with a golden goal scored by Middleton Grange. The U19 team played an exceptional 3rd/4th play-off against James Hargest and won. Congratulations to Louisa Frost and Josh Duncan who were named for tournament teams.

Thank you to Nicole Symons (Coach) who gave up a huge amount of time training our teams, and Southland Canoe Club for the action photos.

                      South Island Secondary School Champs

This years SISS Championship was held in Oamaru which provided the perfect venue- an indoor heated pool, rarely available in Christchurch. Burnside High School entered in one team in the U19 category and was placed 6th overall.

All players had a great time on the water and developed their paddling and canoe polo skills over the weekend.

Any student wishing to take up this exciting sport is encouraged to get involved in the summer league, which runs every Wednesday of Term 4, at Lake Roto Kohatu (near the airport).

                        End of Term 1 League

Burnside High School players had a great time playing in the Term 1 interschools Canoe Polo League. The league is returning in Term 4 so get your teams together! This year the South Island Secondary Schools Canoe Polo Champs are being held in Oamaru on the weekend of 24-25 August 2013 so watch this space!

Burnside HS would like to say a huge thanks to:

                        • Andi, organiser supreme!  Without her it wouldn't have happened!
                        • Nicole, who picked up gear from UC every Wednesday and returned it late in the evening after her club game.  She also bore the brunt of organising packing gear away in the container every week.
                        • Our coaches, especially Mitch and Sarah who were there week after week.  Thanks for generously taking time out of uni week after week.  It was much appreciated

                          Canoe polo Term 1

Term 1 has seen a successful Canoe Polo league run at Lake Roto Kohatu. Burnside High School has four teams entered into the league who are all playing exceptionally well. The last game for Term 1 is on Wednesday 10th April so anyone wanting to find out what Canoe Polo is about should head down after school to support our teams!

If you feel like watching Canoe Polo over Easter head down to Lake Roto Kohatu to see NZ take on Aus in the Oceania Champs! See the Canoe Polo Moodle page for more information.
