Mountain biking is a up and coming sport in Canterbury. There is a Secondary School competition running during term one. The Canterbury’s XC MTB Race Series for Secondary School Riders is held held after school on five Wednesday afternoons during March before the school's road season kicks of in April. All the events are based at the Findlay's Picnic Area at Halswell Quarry and will make use of the MTB singletrack network on the adjacent van Asch property. The series is organised by Murray Anderson, through the Christchurch Singletrack Club who build and maintain the Halswell trail network.
