We are getting regular Ministry updates and currently the message is:
- Our advice at this time is that children should continue to attend school.'While we are seeing large-scale school shutdowns elsewhere in the world, in New Zealand we still have no community transmission. Consequently, any decisions about school closures will be made on a case by case basis.'
Katrina Casey, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Education
School closures rest with Health authorities, primarily through the Medical Officers of Health and schools cannot decide to close as a result of covid-19.
Following the Prime Minister's announcement last night, we ask that all students who have returned from overseas since 4 March stay at home and self-isolate for the balance of the 14 days since they returned. Please ring into the school office to let them know if this applies to your child.
We are ready for online learning through Schoology. We have surveyed the students to find out availability of internet access. We are in contact with NZQA regarding assessments and the potential effects. We have an online Teaching and Learning plan ready to action if needed.
We are taking all reasonable measures to keep our students and staff safe. These include:
- Additional cleaning regimes
- Communications about hygiene
- Cancelling/postponing large trips and being mindful of physical distancing
