Site-Sharing Update

Following a recent meeting involving the Board Chair and senior staff of both Burnside High School and Avonside Girls’ High School with the Ministry of Education, it was confirmed that Avonside Girls’ High School would continue to site-share through until the end of 2011.  It was also confirmed that unless there was another significant event that might change current plans, Avonside Girls’ High School would not be on the Burnside High School site in 2012.  We await formal notification of this from Avonside Girls’ High School and the Ministry of Education.

Afternoon Teaching for Seniors

Year 11

In response to parents, students and staff requests, we will run afternoon classes for Year 11 students for the first five weeks of Term Three (leading up to the mid-term senior school examinations).

Year 12

Year 12 afternoon classes will not be held during that time but will resume after the school’s examinations and continue through until the end year.

Year 13

Afternoon classes for Year 13 students will continue unchanged throughout Term Three and until the end of the year.

Evacuations During Site-Sharing

The two site-sharing schools have met to co-ordinate our evacuation procedures.  In effect, the Burnside High School Principal controls any evacuation up until 1.00 pm and the Avonside Girls’ High School Principal controls from 1.00 pm onwards.

Any Burnside High School student on site during any evacuation is expected to gather on the main fields behind the school buildings.  All Avonside Girls’ High School students gather on the fields near the Aurora Centre.

If the parents of Burnside High School students need their children during or following an evacuation they should report to senior staff at the evacuation centre (classroom next to the upper field) and they will be directed to their child’s form teacher - please know the name of your child’s form teacher and Division.

Teacher Only Day

Minister of Education has advised there will be two teacher-only days this year for NCEA standards realignment work - dates to be advised.

School Holidays

Term 2 will end on Friday 15 July and Term 3 commences on 1 August.

Issue of Reports  - Junior 1 July and Senior 15 July.

Closing Date for 2012 Enrolments   - Year 9 - 5 August 2011, all other levels - 26 August 2011.
