8 November 2011
Dear Parents /Caregivers of Year 9 and 10 Students
Listed below are some important dates for the remainder of this term.
1. Friday 11 November - Show Day
School will be closed for Show Day on Friday 11 November.
2. Monday 14 and Wednesday 16 November - Teacher Only Days
Earlier in the year the Minister of Education gave teachers two days so that they could work on the Alignment of the new NCEA Level 2 Standards. We were scheduled to take one of these days last term but deferred it because of the loss of teaching time for seniors this year caused by the earthquake and by snow.
We will now take these two Teacher Only Days on Monday 14 and Wednesday
16 November. Students should treat these as examination leave days and use them to revise for their school examinations.
3. Tuesday 15, Thursday 17 and Friday 18 November - Year 9 and Year 10 Examinations
Students will sit these examinations on Tuesday 15, Thursday 17 and Friday
18 November. The results of these examinations are considered in regard to class placements for 2012 so students should prepare for them by reviewing their notes, practising maths problems etc.
4. Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 November - Year 9 AsTTle Testing
Year 9 students were tested in Mathematics and Reading Comprehension at the beginning of February. They will be tested again on Monday 21 and Tuesday
22 November. The difference between the results will show the amount of progress your student has made during the course of the year.
Because the tests take almost an hour, school will start and finish at the same time on those two days but students will have 4, one hour periods in the day rather than 5, 45 minute periods.
5. Monday 28, Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 November - Student ID Photos for Metro Cards
Student ID photos will be taken on Monday 28, Tuesday 29 and Wednesday
6. Friday 25 - Wednesday 30 November - Year 9 Activities Days
Year 9 Activity Days will be held in the four school days from Friday 25 November to Wednesday 30 November. This year they will be held at school and will involve a Top Class competition of fun activities. All students are expected to contribute to their classes’ activities. More details will follow soon.
7. Thursday 1 December - Sign Out Day
Year 9 and 10 students will not be required at school because all teachers will be involved in the signing out procedures for Senior Students.
School will resume again on Friday 2 December.
8. Wednesday 7 December - Year 9 and 10 Prize Givings
Year 9 Prize Giving will be held in the Aurora Centre at 8.30am on Wednesday
7 December. All students are expected to attend and should report to their form room at 8.00am.
Year 10 Prize Giving will be held in the Aurora Centre at 10.30am on Wednesday
7 December. Students should report to their form room by 10.00am.
Parents are invited to attend these prize givings. Please be seated in the Aurora Centre 10 minutes before the start time.
At the conclusion of the prize givings, students will return to their form rooms to collect their reports and then will be released for the Christmas holidays (Year 9s at approximately 10.30am and Year 10s at approximately 12.30pm).
Thank you for your support with all these matters.
