On Saturday 9 August eight Burnside teams from year 11, 12 and 13 took part in the New Zealand Programming Competition held at Canterbury University. This is a five hour competition with 3 or 10 or 30 point questions. A team consists of three or less members and problems are solved with team work and only one computer. Teams are in school or tertiary or open category and all are given the same questions.
Two of the Burnside teams gained first equal place out of 34 national teams in the school category with a total of 82 points. This is the same result for the second placed team in the Tertiary junior category.
Congratulations to Michael Trotter 13KNC, Will Sloane 13MUB, Ray Chen 13MUB, Thomas Wright 13PZS, Ke He 13MUB and Rewi Haar 11NCW on this excellent achievement.
Elliot Lawrence 12NCV and Byron Chen 12SGLJ were placed 11 and Patrick Ma 12SWG with Eiran Ling 12SMP were placed 13.
All contestants were a credit to Burnside High School.
