A team ten students attended the National Secondary Schools Athletics Championships in Whanganui over the weekend.

Angus Bailey in his first year as a senior led the 3 man road race team to a gold medal. The team of Angus, Daniel Coats and Nick Findlay won gold comfortably from a large field in the 6km Road Race.
Angus then went in to finish creditably in the final of the 1500m on the track while Nick went on to finish well in the Steeplechase.

In other Athletic news Sean Eustace has been awarded the Brian Taylor Scholarship. The National scholarship was set up after Brian's death in the Christchurch Earthquake to enable young talented athletes to stay in New Zealand to further their running careers. This scholarship is for three years. It was awarded based on his performances over the past 12 months. He is the second recipient of the scholarship. This is a great legacy for Brian and an honour for Burnside High School and Sean.
