Antarctic Tractors at Burnside High School

Students at Burnside High School today learnt about Sir Edmund Hillary's Trans-Antarctic expedition from members of the Expedition South team, currently driving three tractors from Piha Beach to Aoraki Mt Cook. The journey aims to raise nearly $1 million dollars to save Sir Edmund Hillary's hut in Antarctica and maintain it over the next 25 years.

Once complete the team will have travelled the same distance (2012 kilometres) Sir Ed and his team did on three Ferguson TE-20 tractors on their journey to the South Pole, arriving in 1958.

For more information on their journey, or to 'give a fiver to the driver' please visit their webpage below.
